Question about complaint to Carnival Cruises. What’s your opinion?

We recently cruised with Carnival. The cruise and activities were good, however our room had a wet carpet due to a plumbing problem and it smelled mildewy. ( we had to wear shoes in the room and wipe our feet off with a towel before getting in bed) We did complain-they couldn’t fix it and it was a full ship. (The Officer I spoke to couldn’t have cared less…) They sprayed disinfectant daily. When we returned home I wrote them and complained. After 3 weeks they sent me a letter saying sorry and offered us a $25 ship credit each on our next cruise! I think it’s crazy! I’m almost insulted! I think I deserve more than this-it really put a damper on our trip. But what can I do?

i would raise hell. how do you know that their “plumbing problem” wasn’t an overflowed toilet and you had fecal matter all over the carpet?? disgusting. get all your money back!!!

I would do just what you are doing. Complaining publicly and I would never cruise with them again.

Hmm, I have always had good experiences with Carnival Cruises, but every once in a while, a bad incident happens. For me, it was with NCL, and their unwillingness to go to Russia when it was too cold. Sure, they were protected legally, but why offer a cruise in April if you KNOW you can’t get into Russia because of weather.
I recommend trying another cruise line and don’t let this ruin you for sea travel.
God bless!

THAT REALLY SUCKS. I’D WRITE TO YOUR TRAVEL AGENT OR TRAVELOCITY OR WHOEVER YOU BOOKED THE CRUISE THROUGH AND SEE IF THEY CAN OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS.

I know you’ve heard the phrase “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”…squeak…really loud and often until they give you a complimentary cruise. Get on the phone and speak to a person and don’t hang up until you have what you want.

Fight them on this one. Get all your money back or take them to court.

Tell your travel Agent. Sometimes they have more pull than one customer because they represent a lot of customers!

I would contact your Better Business Bureau and get them involved. You will be surprised how a call from the BBB will get results quicker than just talking to you. Good Luck!

send them another letter and explain to them that $25 ,for the trouble you went through after paying all that $$$ to go in the first place, was like a slap in the face, and expalin to them exactly how you feel! thats crazy!! my cruise with carnial was great… but we went from 5 port calls down to 2 and they were not even the ones we were scheduled for and i think we got $25 back!! i thought that was a bit ridiculous because of the cost we paid to go! (however they could not help the closed ports due to hurricanes- but i still expected more since our ports were more than cut in half!)

they need to offer you you a free cruise because it was their problem and they did not fix it. i would write the company president and tell him or her the conditions you had to sleep in while on the cruise. also tell that person that the company offered you a free ship credit but you would rather have either a free cruise or ask for your money back becuse you are dissatisfied. another thing you should mention is that if you dont get either of these then you will no longer cruise with them and will tell your friends and co-workers not to vacation with them because they do not keep their ships properly maintained

Unfortunately, this is a common problem with Carnival. Passengers have problems with the cruise and the staff really does nothing to help.
I can definitely see why you would be upset, that is pretty gross. I can also see how that credit would be insulting, a lot more should have been done. But, this seems common with Carnival.
Unfortunately, since you are off the cruise, I’m not sure they will do much. Issues like these need to be taken care of before you leave the ship, otherwise, most companies will not do anything, this true for hotels and everything.
Carnival, I believe, still has their policy in place where you can get off of the cruise. If you are not completely satisfied with the cruise and the problem cannot be resolved, you let them know before you arrive at the first port. They will then have you take off the ship and flown pack to the home port, you then receive a 100% refund. Again, you have to do these things onboard.
The only thing I can tell you, is keep working at it. Call Carnival, tell them the situation and have them transfer you to someone that could actually help with the situation.
Finally, I would tell your travel agent, if you booked with one. They have a lot more they can do than just a single passenger. The cruise lines know that if they make a travel agent mad, it could really cause problems with booking the ship, they may no longer sell it. I’ve tried to get things corrected before and was able to get nowhere, told my agent, within the hour, the problem was resolved.
So, hopefully you will be able to find something out. Be sure to post some reviews (both the good and the bad) on cruise sites, like Cruise Critic to let people know your experience. Help other travelers from having the same problem.

Yes, you deserve better consideration.
I have heard of a complete new cruise. Cruise only.
Also my Son got 50% off the next cruise. Cruise only.
50% would be a minimum in my opinion.
The squeaky wheel will get oiled. Most people give up, thats what they count on. If you send letters to everyone that you can think off. Travel agent, newspapers, politicians, high level execs at Carnival and keep pounding away, they will give you somthing just to get rid of you.
I’m sure there are cruise chatrooms where complainants compare strategies.
Do a search on “cruise complaints”

In the future, it’s best to raise hell when you first see a problem. It’s kind of like eating a meal at a restaurant and then calling them to say your food was overdone. They will question you why you bothered eating it. I’d write another complaint…preferable addressed to someone higher than the customer service dept. Or the CEO…I’m sure he’s overwhelmed with mail from other people given recent happenings (which I wouldn’t hold Carnival responsible for – people need to be responsible when they drink), but toss it in a large red envelope & maybe it will get a read by the secretary.
